Aerodynamics or Comfort: Why not both?
Traditionally some of the fastest wheels on the planet have been designed around 23mm tyres, capturing a CdA reduction (coefficient of aerodynamic drag) through minimizing the frontal area, and although fast enough to see them under the pros when vital seconds matter on the world stage, there comes a comprise. That compromise being comfort, traction & weight.

At Scribe, we knew the best could be better. So, we set about engineering a 100mm rim profile around a more comfortable 28mm Tyre — specifically, the Vitoria Corsa Pro Speed. This decision based on data compiled by BRR, an independent testing service that provides detailed performance data and tyre comparisons. After a multitude of iterations, we’ve delivered a wheel that offers up the aerodynamic performance of industry leaders, surpassing performance with a significant reduction in rolling resistance (CRR).
Scribe 28mm vs AeroCoach 23mm (Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed)
The larger volume tyre not only reduces rolling resistance (CRR), but also allows the rider to run lower pressures, significantly increasing comfort and grip — welcome traits for those harnessing an aggressive TT position for a local 10-mile race or athletes enduring the bike leg of a triathlon.
Corsa Speed 23mm vs Corsa Pro Speed 28mm
Although we used the 28mm Corsa Pro speed Tyre as our baseline, we also included other popular high-performance TT tyres during the rim development. Including the Continental GP5000 & the Aero 111.
With the advancement in tyre geometry for performance enhancement, we acknowledged it was important that the rim design was tailored to utilise what was currently on the market. With tactical rim/tyre integration, turbulence is created, aiding flow attachment and delaying flow separation — enhancing the sail effect as yaw increases; (which creates propulsion, so the rider effectively get pushed along at speed!) Giving us confidence that what we had developed could be tailored to suit the needs of the rider or course by simply changing the tyre.
Scribe (+29mm Continental Aero111) vs AeroCoach (+23mm Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed)
The new rim profile measures 31mm at its widest point before tactically withdrawing down towards the 30mm hooked bead, which features an internal width of 24mm. As with our Core SuperLight+ models, the hooked bead is slightly reduced (a "mini hook") to optimise the tyre-to-rim interface — something that’s proven critical to maximising stability at speed.
Specification / Real-World Gains
Featuring T1000 Carbon fiber rims, at the core of the assembly is a flanged J-Bend hub, equipped with Ceramic (Grade 3) bearings as standard. To complete the build, we utilise industry-leading Sapim CX-Ray spokes with concealed nipples for a clean aerodynamic profile — maximising aero efficiency where it matters.
